Looking for opinions!

First, to update everyone on the trip, we have decided to go to Antigua. Now sure whether we will do Sandals or another resort, but it seemed to offer a lot of what we want. We will be going in July, so I am super excited about that.

The 2 things I am looking for advice on are related to gifts

1. We are getting Grady a telescope for his birthday. Does anyone have one for their children that they like? I only want to spend about $100, and I have found some on Amazon for about that which get good reviews, but I wanted to ask on here.

2. My IL's just gave us a check for $600 to put towards the kids' Christmas gifts. I would have preferred that they take the time and pick out thoughtful gifts, but whatever. I give up on them. I am thinking it may be nice to do one large gift, so I was considering a swingset (we could do baby swings as well as regular). We do have a nice climber for about ages 1-4 (G still uses it) but it is simple. We also have a great playhouse that Eric built and a sandbox. Any good ideas on what to use the $ for? We spend all year playing outside here, so outdoor toys are great, but we could also do memberships at our zoo and children's museum for that price and still have $ left over for a smallish thing for each kid. Any suggestions? Oh, I also considered a trampoline with a net around it. Totally insane? Camille could not use it for a while, but even Anson could do it. He just used one at a friend's party.

I wish I had an idea on the telescope! If you find a good one, let me know.

I am scared of Trampolines. I have majoy anxiety when I se kids on them. I know peoplw who have them and it wears the kids out quickly, but for some reason I ca't get over the fears! I think I was hurt on one once a long time ago, hence the anxiety.

I would go with a swing set!

Thanks for the input! Trampolines used to seem so scary/dangerous to me, but we have friends who have on that is all enclosed, and it seems pretty safe. But I still might have trouble actually getting one.

I would probably go with the swing set. Trampolines scare me!

Thanks for the input. They sort of scare me too. We would get an enclosed one, but still...

Definitely do the swing set. We have one that has 2 bucket seats, a baby seat and it can have a glider and has a slide and tree house. the kids love it and play with it a ton. its definitely a year round play set.

i am so jealous of Antigua! We are trying to plan a 10 year trip and we are not agreeing on what to do. i want to go somewhere and RELAX (ie. lay on a beach and drink) but Steve says he wants to do something different.

i totally agree with the playset. i hate trampolines and I do think the enclosures help but they can still be dangerous. we have an awesome Rainbow playset that the kids will use for years and years. I also do like the idea of memberships b/c we use those a lot, too, but $600 is a good chunk to put down on something!

Well I am glad you have heard good things about it. It's not as popular as some islands (which is sort of why I want to go) so I hope we are making a good choice!

Swingset sounds like the perfect idea! All three would get great use out of it. Have you considered a blow up bouncy house? Friends of ours have a decent size one and they use it all the time and bring it to friends houses for parties. Other friends of ours have a bouncy/slide one where you can also choose to fill with water and have water going down the slide.
